Mytravelpass

Mytravelpass is a Welsh Government run scheme whereby any young person aged 16 - 21 can recieve at least a third off all bus travel in Wales!

All you have to do is apply on online here and the pass will be with you in 10 working days. Once you have received your pass, just show it to the driver on your bus!

All you need to apply is a Welsh address and a suitable photograph to upload.

Cardiff Bus

As the name suggests, Cardiff Bus provides bus services within the city centre, its suburbs and to various destinations outside of the city (eg Newport, Penarth, Dinas Powys, Barry, St Athan and Llantwit Major).

There are a number of other bus and coach service providers providing services to and from Cardiff and the surrounding areas.

Traveling Between Campuses

  • Train – The Cardiff campus is within 10 minutes walk away from the railway station at Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central. There are regular valley services which all go via Trefforest as well as the Bristol Temple Meads service going via Newport. 

  • Bus - The 132 Stagecoach service runs from Cardiff City Centre. Buses stop on Llantwit Road immediately outside the Treforest campus.

  • Cycle – The National Cycle Route 8 runs directly past the Glyntaff campus and links with the Taff Trail Route 8 which connects to Cardiff Atrium and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama campuses to the south or Merthyr Tydfil College campus to the north. Lockable bike shed, locker and shower facilities are available on both campuses, ask at reception for more details. Using a combination of Route 4 and route 47 it is possible to get across to Newport via Caerphilly. See the Sustrans link for further details.

Train

The main train stations in Cardiff are: Cardiff Central, Cardiff Queen Street, Cathays and Cardiff Bay.

Cycling Information

Cycling to the University is easy thanks to a comprehensive network of cycle and bridlepaths connecting with Cardiff from all directions. Have a look at the Cycle Network routes on Sustrans for more information.

The cycle shelters at Atrium and Atlantic House are secured with a lockable gate. To obtain a key card for the gate, first complete a Student Bicycle Registration Scheme Form. You will be contacted shortly for collection, upon receipt of completed application form. We will provide you with a key card for access. Please note that there is a £5 charge for any lost or damaged cards.

If you have any problems contact the Atrium Reception Desk on 01443 668543. Lockers are available in the cycle shelter and free showers are available on the second floor of the Atrium building for cyclists.

Walking Information

Cardiff is a very walkable city. The city centre is compact, and most residential areas popular with students can be reached within half an hour by walking.

There are also scenic footpaths through parks or along canals.

Safe Taxi Scheme

Dragon Taxis provide a safe taxi scheme if you are in an emergency situation and need to travel home. More information can be found here.

Parking

There is limited parking on campus, but there is an NCP car park opposite which charges £7 per day.
